In the population growth rate based on the 2020 national census released by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, except for the four towns and villages in Fukushima Prefecture due to the lifting of evacuation orders following the TEPCO's Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant accident, Nagareyama City, which is adjacent to Matsudo City in Chiba Prefecture, had the highest population growth rate in Japan. Since Matsudo City in Chiba Prefecture is adjacent to Tokyo, commuting time to Tokyo is usually within an hour in Nagareyama City.
Nagareyama City is undergoing a large-scale redevelopment project with one of the concepts being "Nagareyama City is a good place to be a mother. The area around Nagareyama Otakanomori Station, which is the central station of Nagareyama City and within a 30-minute ride on a rapid train to Akihabara Station or Shin-Okachimachi Station (a transfer station on the Toei Oedo Line) without changing trains, is still undergoing large-scale redevelopment, and a large-scale park rich in nature is planned.
Nagareyama City is also planning to build a new bridge to further improve cross-river access to the very popular commercial complexes (Costco, Lalaport, and IKEA) in the neighboring city of Misato, Saitama Prefecture.
